Which hat?

I'm a hat collector. I have about fifteen. Western hats, you know, the wild west cowboy style. But also (mostly, in fact) vintage and new fedora's, classic "gangster movie" hats. And a so-called "panama" hat (all of them are from Ecuador). Real beauties. One or two a true museum piece (well, almost).

As much as I'd like to take one of my more prized examples of the felt art, a month-long trip as the one I'm intending will probably ruin it. The meseta, with its dominant heat, will undoubtedly cause me to sweat profusely, and the leather hatband will become soaked and ...filthy. And then, past the border into Galicia, the rain will make even the finest felt sag miserably. And a freak wind might blow it offa my head...

I'll most probably take a lesser example of the art along on my walk: a wool-felt Borsalino. This particular hat isn't made from "real" felt (rabbit hair, or -better- containing beaver or, sometimes, nutria hair). I won't care much if this hat be misshapen into ...a hat with character. I might even grow to like it!
